Dental Implants
Single Missing Tooth Replaced by Implant
| • |
Dental Implants are now the closest replacement to natural teeth |
| • |
They are embedded in the jaw bone |
| • |
They restore 80% of the teeth function versus 20% with dentures |
Fractured root canal treated tooth #21 was extracted and replaced with an Implant. An immediate same day temporary crown was given for the patient to go back to work without any disruption to his lifestyle. Three months later a full ceramic abutment was screwed on to the Implant and an aesthetic crown cemented on to the abutment.
Multiple Teeth Implants
| Phase I: Implant-Surgery |
| Once all necessary pre-operative planning is done, a minor surgical procedure is scheduled to place the implants (within the jaw bone) as seen below. This can be done either under a local anaesthetic or better yet under intra-venous sedation if more comfort is needed. |

Missing molars teeth
in the lower jaw |
| Phase II: Implant-Prosthetics |
| Once the surgery is complete, most implants need approximately 8 – 12 weeks of undisturbed healing (although protocols may vary). Following a final review, an impression is made so that the “implant-abutment” and the “final crown” can be done by the dental laboratory. These are then screwed or cemented on to complete the treatment. |
Question & Answer
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a “stand-alone tooth” that can be used to restore a space that has been left open, after a tooth has been removed.
Each “implant-tooth” comprises of three (3) separate segments, the implant-fixture, the implant-abutment & the manufactured crown.
What are the advantages of implants?
| • |
Natural teeth need not be trimmed as with conventional bridges |
| • |
As they are “stand-alone” teeth, teeth can be flossed as normal, making hygiene excellent |
| • |
Minimizes jaw bone loss (which occurs naturally when teeth are lost) as the screw is anchored within bone |
How long does it take?
Standard treatment time can range from 8 to 12 weeks for most straightforward cases however this can vary with each individual situation.
